Relative DKP is the value of DKP relative to the system average. Relative DKP is a way to determine someones buying power relative to others, in a perfectly balanced zero-sum system the relative and absolute value is the same. But once the system starts to get inflated the absolute DKP will become misleading.

Definition

Relative DKP = Absolute DKP - System average

Examples

Consider the following systems.

Absolute DKP:
A: 100 DKP
B: 100 DKP
C: -50 DKP

System average: (100 + 100 - 50) / 3 = 50 DKP

Relative DKP:
A: 50 DKP
B: 50 DKP
C: -100 DKP
Absolute DKP:
A: 100 DKP
B: -50 DKP
C: -50 DKP

System average: (100 - 50 - 50) / 3 = 0 DKP

Absolute DKP:
A: 100 DKP
B: -50 DKP
C: -50 DKP

Person A has 100 absolute DKP in both systems. But person A has 50 relative DKP less in the first system compared to the second. That is also reflected in person A's buying power, A is 100 DKP "stronger" than the average person in the second system but only 50 DKP "stronger" in the first system.
